In translation from Latin, stimulus means " encouraging cause " . Those words also referred to a stick by which livestock were lifted, which provided a very precise definition of the word “stimulus”. The basis for motivation or incentives for any staff member to work in good faith is:
- Remuneration (labour) that enables it to meet physiological needs;
- Interest in the profession;
- Awareness of the need for their work and personal significance.
To bring real benefits to both staff and organizations as a whole, the motivation system must take these three factors into account.
